Poplar is a common choice for drum shells due to it offering a balanced range of frequencies, perfect for a variety of styles. You can also expect a warm, full tone with a medium attack. What's more, poplar drum shells are also ideal for studio recording and live performances.

Small and portable

Unlike standard kits that usually come with a 20'' or 22'' diameter Bass drum, the Sonor AQX 18'' Jazz Shell Pack is shrunk down and features an 18" Bass drum. As well as a smaller Bass drum, both rack and floor toms are also tinier. Whilst this configuration might look petite, the Sonor Sonor AQX Shell Pack is by no means a quiet kit.

Smaller kits with shallow shells offer a shorter distance between the batter head and resonant head, thus providing a faster reaction time whilst also greater sensitivity for softer beats. If that's not enough, they are also perfect for smaller stages, intimate gigs, and homes where space is limited.
